5 + 1 easy habits for healthy skin

How to keep this skin of mine happy, is something most of us wonder about every now and then. I bet everyone has those days when they just feel like their skin is only letting them down (and of course it always happens at just that one moment when it's most inconvenient. You know what I mean?)

Actually there's no magic trick to how to let your skin glow. It's just about a combination of simple every day things and a potion of patience along the side (as we have our moody days, we should allow or skin to have them too. Only every now and then though, obviously)

Here we've gathered the 5 most basic tricks your skin will love + 1 to help you out on those moody face days. 

1. Sun

Here in Finland we only get very little sunlight during the darker seasons, and almost all of us suffer from low vitamin D-levels. So every time there's a bright sunny day, you bet I'm outside with a bare face trying to catch all those rays. Remember to stay protected with a non-toxic sunscreen if the sunrays feel strong. And if you feel like you're not getting enough sun, remember to pop those vegan d-vitamin supplements into your diet! 

2. Sleep

It's crucial for our wellbeing to get enough sleep. The quality of your sleep counts just as much, so it's very important to have a stress-free zone, where you can sleep peacefully. Remember to change your sheets, and especially the pillowcase on a regular basis to prevent any bacteria touching your skin. 

3. Water

Try to get in 1-2 litres of water every day. Starting your mornings with a cup of hot lemon water is a good way to hydrate yourself, without shocking your body with cold water first thing in the morning. For the rest of the day, try to carry a water bottle around that is easy to refill when on the go. Play around and infuse your water with berries, fruits and herbs.

4. Beauty Products

Find the products that work for you and stick to them. I highly recommend using natural and organic cosmetics, that only include safe ingredients. Some of the chemicals that are allowed in non-natural products are very harmful for us. I've found Mossa and Mia Höytö's products work like a wonder for me. 

5. Food

The food you put in your body is literally the fuel of your life. It's important to find a balance that works for YOU. I find my body works best if my meals are balanced of whole foods. I'm not saying you can't ever treat yourself, (because I often do) but opting for a healthier treat like a piece of rawcake or some air-popped popcorn instead of chips is the best way to indulge, especially for your skin. Also having a vegan diet has been known to help with skin issues. I highly recommend staying away from all animal products, but especially dairy is known for it’s connections with for example acne. 

+ 6. Tea Tree Oil

This one is your saver in those situations when your skin decides to challenge you. For breakouts, tea tree oil is a true wonder. It’s a powerful antibacterial essential oil that I've found works well on blemishes and scarring. You can apply it directly onto your skin, you'll only need a little so a tiny bottle will actually last you for quite a while.
