Maria Luostarinen Inlace kalenteri

It's time to start a new month! March is here and we're hoping for warmer temperatures, more sun rays and fresh spring vibed inspiration here in our chilled northern nook aka Helsinki.

Every month we're introducing you to one of the lovely girls behind our calendar and today it's time for you to get to know Maria.

Hi Maria! Can you maybe tell us a little about yourself and what you like to do?

It’s me, Maria. I’m a 21-year-old IB student (yup, that’s right, 21 and still in high school, no shame) from Turku. I like to do creative stuff, painting and writing mainly. Running is great, too. My best friend and I are planning on running a marathon once it gets a tad warmer. Lately I’ve been getting into playing pool. It’s kind of fun.

Oh and I love doing the laundry. It’s almost like a hobby at this point. So therapeutic.

What is your relationship to drawing?

I draw. I’ve always drawn. I took lessons in an art school for nearly 15 years. My teacher was incredible and her advice made me quite a good technical artist. The creative process, on the other hand, isn’t always too great. A lot of the time my mind is just blank. But when it isn’t I’m racing against time to draw as much as I can!

What is inspiring you at the moment?

One of my dearest friends and I became flatmates a few months back. Switching things up like that always sparks inspiration for me. I just sit on my new balcony and watch the world go by. So many inspiring things going on.

Personal growth is one of our themes for the year. How have you changed during the last year?

I moved back to Finland pretty much exactly a year ago. It’s been brilliant. Only now have I truly understood the beauty of my home country and the people here. I’ve never been an acquaintance collector but during the past twelve months I have met a lot of interesting new people as well as deepened my already existent friendships.

I’ve also learnt to deal with my depression. It’s always going to be there, but at least it and I can now have joint custody of my mind, body and life. Life as I now know it is pretty sweet.

What do you love most about yourself?

About myself? Myself. The whole package. I’m the best me that has ever lived or will ever live. It took me two decades to realise that, thus I now equally love everything about myself.

If you were to pick a song to be your theme song, what would it be?

11th Dimension by Julian Casablancas. It was such a tune when it came out back in 2009 and who am I kidding - it still is. Your faith has got to be greater than your fear.
