meet the illustrator & co-founder: Ona Rihu

April is here and spring is slowly starting to show in Helsinki (ok very slowly but still). The girl behind this month's stunning drawing for our calendar is our very own Ona Rihu. This sparkling soul is always a bliss to have around.
We love Ona for her bold and creative ideas, her thrive to turn inspiration into reality and our shared day dream sessions over a cup of steamy matcha.
What important lessons have you learned during the last 12 months?
The importance of friendships. They say you are a reflection of your friends, and I think there’s some truth behind that. So I’ve learned to surround myself with people who inspire me, people who push me forward and people who love and accept me for who I am.
How did you get into the sustainable lifestyle?
Once I turned vegan for ethical reasons I started to pay more attention to my behaviour as a consumer in all aspects of my life. I want to make informed decisions so I do a lot of research and that helps me make better choices. I am in no way perfect though and still struggling sometimes to find balance. The most important thing is to try.
Speaking of that, what are your best tips for anyone interested in going plant based?
Education is key. There are so many myths about diet out there and it’s really important to make the research yourself to see what’s true and what’s not. Watch Cowspiracy and What The Health, and Earthlings if you dare. Once you have the proper knowledge it's much easier to make a choice.
What is inspiring you at the moment?
I always get super inspired in the spring. It’s something about the light. Right now I’m feeling inspired by all the strong women around me, learning about the law of attraction and seeing Helsinki come to life after spending 3 months abroad this winter.
What would a perfect Sunday breakfast look like?
Avocado toast, carrot juice and warm lemon water or matcha. Breakfast is best shared with your loved ones <3
All time favourite thrifted item?
Probably my 1€ black vintage silk dress. It’s my go-to when it’s warm enough to wear. Also the vintage faux leather jacket I'm wearing in the picture is a fave!
What tunes have you been into lately?
Erykah Badu, Kali Uchis and Musiq Soulchild have been the highlight of my playlists lately. Also anyone who knows me knows my love for 90's RnB never dies.
